The biggest LGBTQ+ destinations deserve their place in the spotlight, but they are not the whole story. Across Europe, Latin America, and Asia, smaller or less fashionable cities offer welcoming queer communities, excellent food, strong public transport, and a better chance of spending money with independent businesses rather than global hotel chains. These are my ten favourite B-list choices: places with enough gay life for a memorable trip, without the relentless crowds and inflated prices of the usual capitals. Check current local laws and travel advice before booking, particularly if you are trans, non-binary, or travelling with a partner whose documents may attract scrutiny.
